Historic Elmira presented its fourth annual preservation awards Tuesday at Elmira College.
Kaye Newbury, Historic Elmira president, said Advocate Awards were presented to The Glove House Inc. and Dale Bryant.
The award recognizes government officials, community leaders, businessmen or citizens who demonstrate their advocacy for Elmira’s historic and architectural heritage.
The Glove House received the award for the preservation of a pair of West Church Street properties. Bryant received the award for his dedication to historic preservation in the Elmira area.
The Project Awards winners were Bill Newgent and the Rev. Donald and Margaret Matthews.
The award recognizes historic preservation, restoration, rehabilitation or reuse.
Newgent received the award for his sensitive rehabilitation of seven buildings in Elmira’s Near Westside Historic District.
The Rev. Donald and Margaret Matthews received the honor for the restoration of their historic residence on West Church Street.
“We are so pleased to be presenting our fourth annual awards to such stellar examples of hard work and dedication in the Elmira community,” Newbury said.
U.S. Rep. Tom Reed, R-Corning, recognized Historic Elmira for its preservation efforts.
“I commend Historic Elmira’s leadership team, volunteers and supporters,” Reed said. “The organization’s tireless efforts towards the preservation of the Elmira area are truly remarkable.”
