Historic Elmira, Inc. Announces Start of 4th Annual Amazing Elmira Treasure Hunt Month-long Contest Celebrates National Preservation Month in May

ELMIRA, NY * May 1, 2014- In honor of National Preservation Month, Historic Elmira, Inc. is celebrating its 4th Annual Amazing Elmira Treasure Hunt. As part of the ongoing festivities for Elmira's 150th anniversary year, Historic Elmira has decided to celebrate the architects of Elmira's golden age- Pierce and Bickford. From family homes to civic buildings, the treasure hunt acts as an introductory tour of the architectural duo's prolific legacy. The purpose of the treasure hunt is to raise awareness about the many historic buildings and sites in the greater Elmira area. "This year we anticipate a lot of enthusiastic participants contending for the $150 prize," said Kaye Newbury, Historic Elmira president. "The Treasure Hunt is a fun way for families and friends to discover new things about this 150 year old city."

The 4th Annual Amazing Elmira Treasure Hunt will take place during the full month of May. The treasure hunt, which offers a monetary prize of $150.00, is set up similar to a scavenger hunt where participants are encouraged to discover the legacy of Pierce and Bickford by identifying as many of the 20 pictured clues throughout Elmira as possible. Participants should search for the landmarks throughout Elmira including downtown, the Heights, Southside, and West Elmira. The winner of the of Amazing Elmira Treasure Hunt will be announced by Historic Elmira on Monday, June 9. If more than one participant qualifies for the cash prize, a random drawing will take place on Monday, June 9. Participants must be at least 18 years of age to win the cash prize, but individuals of all ages are encouraged to participate.
